Bangladesh Prime Minister Tariq Rahman is slated to arrive in New Delhi in November after a brief hiatus that saw his BRICS Summit trip cancelled. Sources close to the schedule say the visit will break a three‑month lull in high‑level engagement between New Delhi and Dhaka. High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi has been coordinating with Bangladeshi officials to set the itinerary.
The move comes as Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Humaiun Kobir, declared the country ready to ‘reset’ its relationship with India. Kobir said the two governments should move beyond what he described as an “excessive preoccupation” with India and adopt a balanced approach based on mutual interests. The announcement followed Bangladesh’s recent rejection of Rahman’s earlier invitation to the BRICS Summit.
During the November meeting, the two leaders are expected to tackle a range of issues, from border security and illegal migration to trade and the renewal of the Ganga water treaty. New Delhi has also indicated it will address the contentious extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was sentenced to death in absentia in November 2025 and is currently in India.
Dinesh Trivedi said the High Commission has maintained “consistent engagement” with Dhaka’s senior officials in preparation for the talks. He added that India’s legal framework will guide any extradition discussions in accordance with established procedures.
The two heads of government are set to convene on November 15, with a joint statement on border security and illegal migration expected to be released afterward. Further details on the agenda will follow the meeting.
