On Wednesday, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) reversed course, buying ₹1.62 crore of equities, a stark turnaround from their ₹3.81 crore sell‑off Tuesday. The influx helped lift the Nifty 50 to 23,447, its highest level in two weeks.
FIIs bought ₹13.58 crore in shares and sold ₹11.96 crore, netting ₹1.62 crore. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) added ₹2.34 crore, buying ₹14.40 crore and selling ₹12.06 crore. Together, Indian equities attracted a net inflow of ₹3.96 crore.
The Nifty and Sensex posted gains of 118 and 299 points respectively, closing at 23,447 and 74,828. The Nifty Bank index surged 333 points to 56,549, while the Midcap climbed 433 points to 62,396.
Sector gains were led by metals—Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Hindalco each up ~3%—and steel giant SAIL up 6% on a price hike. Bajaj Finance rose 3% after a brokerage note, PB Fintech jumped 5% ahead of an IRDAI paper, while 360 One WAM gained 3% following a CEO change.
With commodity prices rallying and US‑Iran talks easing, market breadth remains positive, advance‑decline ratio at 2:1. Analysts expect FIIs to continue buying as the RBI signals potential policy easing, while DIIs remain supportive. Investors should monitor upcoming earnings releases in the metals and financial sectors.
