Bastar court handed down death sentences to ten Maoist convicts involved in the May 25, 2013 Jhiram Valley attack, a Wednesday verdict dated September 16, 2026.
The ambush on the Congress 'Parivartan Rally' killed 29, including senior leaders Nand Kumar Patel, his son Dinesh, former opposition head Mahendra Karma, former Union minister Vidya Charan Shukla, and MLA Uday Mudliyar.
The special court in Jagdalpur convicted the 10 accused on September 5, reserved its punishment order for September 16, and the NIA counsel confirmed the death penalty for all.
Following the attack, the BJP‑led state government forwarded the investigation to the NIA within two days and set up a judicial commission chaired by High Court Judge Prashant Kumar Mishra.
The sentences will now be filed with the Supreme Court, where appeals could reshape the verdict.
