Kumkum Mohod clinched the women's individual recurve gold at the Asian Games, beating South Korea's Oh Yejin 10‑8 in a shoot‑off after a 5‑5 tie.
Mohod’s path to the final saw her dispatch world champion Kang Chaeyoung 6‑3 in the quarter‑finals and China’s Zhu Jingyi 6‑2 in the semis. In the final’s fifth set she fired a perfect 30, forcing a shoot‑off where she outshot the Koreans.
The victory ends Korea’s streak of individual recurve gold at the Games and marks the first time an Indian has won the title. It also secures a quota spot for India at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Mohod, 17, had rehearsed the phrase "Kumkum, Asian Games gold jeetna hai" nightly for a year before the Games, and her mental focus paid off. With the Asian Games triumph, she now turns her sights to the 2028 Olympics and the upcoming national championships.
