BCCI has secured separate accommodation for its 30‑member men’s squad at the Asian Games, a move that guarantees the full‑strength team can focus on the gold‑medal chase.
The decision came after the committee realized the contingent would exceed the 20‑person limit set by the organizers. "We don’t want to segregate the men’s team during the tournament," said secretary Devajit Saikia, highlighting the need for a unified camp.
Saikia added that the women’s squad will stay in the hospitality suites provided by the organisers, as their 20‑member contingent fits within the allowed quota. While the board trusts the local committee for venue facilities, it remains wary of reports that other cricket boards complained about the pitch quality.
India’s 30‑man lineup includes seven first‑choice ODI players, a lineup that mirrors the squad that won gold in 2023 with a second‑string team. "An Asian Games gold is as important as any other big tournament," Saikia said, underscoring the board’s intent to field Bumrah, Iyer and the rest.
The BCCI also announced a T20I friendly against Japan on September 22, a nod to the 75‑year diplomatic ties. The idea was sparked by ICC chairman Jay Shah, who met with the Japanese counterpart in Edinburgh.
