Parveen Rani, Mayor of Hertsmere, will attend the NDTV World Summit 2026 in New Delhi on Oct 22‑23, 2026, alongside her son Tushar Kumar, the youngest Indian‑origin mayor in the UK.
Rani relocated to the United Kingdom in 2013 with her family, was elected to the Hertsmere Borough Council in 2023, and assumed the mayoralty on May 20, 2026. Her son, also elected in 2023, joined her as council leader.
At the summit, the duo will co‑present “The Diaspora Impact – From Rohtak to Mayors in the UK” on day two at 6 pm, a session that will examine how migration shapes local governance.
Rani, a former Cabinet Member for Streetscene, Parks, Leisure and Culture and a Global Envoy for Film and Television, has championed community cohesion, youth engagement and heritage preservation in Hertsmere.
She told PTI that the move to the UK was unplanned, adding that she looks forward to serving diverse communities. The summit is expected to draw world leaders, policymakers and tech entrepreneurs.
The session will be broadcast live, and the mayor will return to Hertsmere to prepare for the upcoming council elections slated for November 2026.
