But the Manipur Cabinet said on Tuesday that a visit by Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely in October, though the exact date remains unannounced.
State spokesperson Sapam Ranjan Singh told reporters that Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh’s office had not yet fixed the schedule, adding that the visit would underscore the state's security concerns.
The timing follows a series of security incidents along the Indo‑Myanmar frontier, and the government says Shah’s presence would signal central support for ongoing peace and rehabilitation work.
A Cabinet resolution, drafted earlier this month, will thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he completes 25 years in office on October 7, and highlight nearly ₹16,000 crore earmarked for 1,100 km of national highways and ₹3,223 crore for 240 km of border fencing.
It also cites the UNLF peace accord signed on 29 Nov 2023, the 2019 extension of the Integrated Local Police system, a jump in rural tap‑water coverage from 6 % to 80 %, and over 14 lakh beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat, as well as new institutions like the National Sports University and Churachandpur Medical College.
The resolution will be forwarded to the Prime Minister’s office, and officials say the visit, if confirmed, could dovetail with a broader strategy to accelerate Manipur’s integration into Viksit Bharat 2047.
