Ballia family court slapped a Rs 3,000 penalty on Bhojpuri star Pawan Singh Saturday after he skipped a hearing in his wife Jyoti Singh’s maintenance case. Judge Kamalapati Prajapati also set a new hearing for Nov. 12.
Singh had earlier missed hearings on Sept. 9 and Oct. 5, drawing Rs 1,000 fines each time.
Jyoti Singh, who appeared alone with her lawyer, slammed Singh for "mocking the judicial process," adding that the case, filed on April 22, 2022, had left her "ruined."
The actor, a BJP MLC from Bihar, married Jyoti in 2018, and his career has been punctuated by accusations of using his political clout to sidestep legal duties.
With the Nov. 12 hearing looming, Singh faces the risk of further penalties that could dent his political career and tarnish his public image.
