Prof. Govindan Rangarajan, director of India's premier research institute IISc, delivered a cautionary address at Adani University’s third convocation on Saturday, urging the crowd to weigh the benefits of AI against its potential to blur truth and erode human connection.
He warned that synthetic media can mislead, asking, "When images and videos can be generated so convincingly, how can we know what is true?" and questioned whether digital proximity is turning into emotional distance.
The university, founded in 2022 and focused on industry‑relevant education, awarded 374 degrees to the Class of 2026, including five gold, three silver and two bronze academic excellence medals.
Dr Priti Adani, the institution’s president, praised Rangarajan as a beacon for the graduates and highlighted the role of industry partnerships in shaping curriculum that addresses real‑world challenges.
In her remarks she urged students to innovate at scale, aiming to deliver breakthroughs that reach marginalized communities, while the provost outlined plans to strengthen research ties with industry and society.
Rangarajan’s speech is expected to influence Adani University’s upcoming review of its AI curriculum and the institution’s broader strategy for responsible technology adoption.
