Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that the state’s new international airport in Jewar would be renamed Narendra Modi International Airport, a move approved by the cabinet on Friday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the airport on March 28, and it welcomed its first commercial flight—a Lucknow‑to‑Noida IndiGo run—on June 15.
The 3,900‑metre runway, equipped with dual ILS systems, can accommodate wide‑body jets, while the facility’s initial 1.2‑million‑passenger capacity is slated to grow to 7 million as part of a Rs 11,282‑crore investment.
Designed as a multimodal transport hub, the airport links air, road, and other modes of travel, positioning it as Uttar Pradesh’s largest aviation centre and a key node in India’s broader network.
The cabinet’s decision reflects the state’s gratitude to the Prime Minister, who gifted the airport to Uttar Pradesh, and it signals a push to boost regional connectivity and economic activity.
