Balkrishna Industries shares rose 2.1% to ₹2,077.90 on the news that it will partner with Pirelli in a 50:50 joint venture to manufacture passenger car radial tyres in India.
Under the framework, the two firms will incorporate the joint venture by 31 December 2030, with a separate offtake agreement that locks in a minimum annual commitment and capacity from Balkrishna’s Bhuj plant. The offtake and service clauses also give Pirelli exclusive testing and technical support, while Balkrishna will be barred from producing competing passenger car tyres until the JV becomes operational.
The tyre sector has seen steady demand growth in India, with the passenger‑car segment expanding at a CAGR of 5.3% over the last five years. Pirelli’s entry is expected to capture a slice of the premium market, while Balkrishna’s existing BKT brand will benefit from synergies in tooling and distribution. Analysts note that the JV could lift Balkrishna’s gross margin from 12.8% to roughly 15% once the joint plant reaches full capacity.
Looking ahead, the company plans to release its Q3 earnings on 15 November, where it will showcase the JV’s initial production figures and projected revenue contribution. Market watchers expect a modest earnings lift in the next quarter, as the partnership unlocks new export opportunities and strengthens Balkrishna’s competitive positioning.
