Yahya Saree, the Houthi military spokesman, blasted Riyadh on Sunday, urging all aviation and navigation firms, staff, workers and travellers to stay away from Saudi airports and airspace, which he said are now “exposed to targeting” and “a theatre of operations” for Houthi forces—except for the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.
The strike on Riyadh International Airport caused damage to the airport’s radar and communications arrays, and the runways are still under assessment.
A senior aviation source in Riyadh told AFP that the airport had been shut down again overnight following a temporary closure announced the night before.
Flightradar24 logged the extended closure, noting that Riyadh Airport will remain shut until 21:00 UTC today, a 24‑hour extension from the initial suspension.
The airport remains closed until further notice, with no timetable announced for reopening.
