On Monday, a Delhi court issued a notice to former Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Singh, assistant secretary Vinod Tomar, and the state, following the appeal filed on September 25.
The appeal challenges the September 25 acquittal of Singh and Tomar by a magistrate, which cleared them of sexual‑harassment charges filed by six wrestlers, including world‑champion Vinesh Phogat, citing lack of evidence.
In their petition, the wrestlers argue that the acquittal was based on a "manifestly erroneous and selective appreciation" of evidence, relying on conjecture and old stereotypes about victim behaviour, and that the court failed to apply binding legal principles.
Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh will hear the appeal on October 9, after which the court may overturn the earlier decision and order a new trial.
