A projectile struck King Fahd International Airport in Dammam on Wednesday evening, killing one person and injuring eight, the Saudi Civil Aviation Authority confirmed. The blast added to a series of incidents targeting Saudi aviation infrastructure over the past week.
The attack comes amid a surge of Yemen’s Iran‑backed Houthi missile and drone strikes that have repeatedly hit Saudi airports since the conflict escalated.
Civil aviation officials reported that injuries ranged from minor to serious and that damage to the airport’s runways and terminal buildings is under assessment.
Investigators are working to identify the weapon type and the source of the projectile, with the Saudi Ministry of Interior coordinating with the Joint Chiefs of Staff on the security response.
The incident follows previous attacks on Riyadh and Jeddah airports, prompting the government to tighten air traffic security measures across the kingdom.
The aviation authority will release a full report after concluding investigations and will review security protocols at all civil airports to prevent future incidents.
