FIP President Capt. CS Randhawa sent a letter to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau urging it to scrutinise the electrical, electronic and avionics evidence from the Air India AI‑171 Boeing 787 crash.
The letter references technical notes already submitted to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the AAIB, which flag recurring electrical system problems on 787s and link them to the June 2025 VT‑ANB accident.
FIP insists the agency analyse data from flight recorders, aircraft health‑monitoring systems, ACARS transmissions, built‑in test equipment and manufacturer service records, and cross‑reference them with maintenance logs, deferred defect lists and recurring fault reports.
The federation highlights the 787’s “More Electric Aircraft” architecture, noting that its integrated power‑generation, distribution and data‑network systems are critical to safe operation and that intermittent failures could have contributed to the crash.
AAIB confirmed that it has received the materials through a UK expert and will incorporate them into its ongoing investigation, with a review slated before the next technical audit meeting.
The demand follows a series of safety concerns raised by pilots over the past year and comes as regulators prepare to issue updated maintenance guidelines for 787 electrical systems.
