Police in Sangrur arrested Lovepreet Kaur after a complaint filed by her husband, a truck driver, who reported that his three children had suddenly fallen ill. The children—six‑year‑old Jasnoor Kaur, five‑year‑old Armandeep Singh and two‑and‑a‑half‑year‑old Rehandeep Singh—were found dead on August 26, their deaths initially chalked up to food poisoning.
Investigators traced the sweets to a local market where the family had bought them for Raksha Bandhan. When the children ate the treats, they developed severe symptoms within hours, but other shoppers who had bought the same batch did not suffer any adverse effects, raising immediate suspicion.
Senior police officer Ravjot Kaur Grewal said the mother was allegedly in a relationship with Harjit Singh, a man she met on Instagram. The two are believed to have conspired to mix herbicide into the sweets, a claim backed by forensic samples that matched the chemical profile found in the children’s stomachs.
The police are now conducting raids to locate Harjit Singh, while forensic teams continue to analyze the remaining sweets and any other evidence that could link him to the crime. An arrest warrant has been issued for Singh, and authorities expect to release further details once the investigation concludes.
