Yashaswinee Raje Singh, daughter of former BJP MLA Vikram Singh, was detained by Delhi Police on Saturday while sitting in a park near the Bangla Sahib gurdwara, as authorities moved to clamp down on a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The protest, organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), drew more than 1,000 demonstrators, leading Delhi Police to deploy 40,000 officers, erect barricades, and lay spike strips across the capital to restrict movement.
Four former chief ministers—Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal, Pinarayi Vijayan, and Manik Sarkar—were also taken into custody as they attempted to join the gathering at Jantar Mantar. Banerjee, who had been sitting with a band‑aided face at a bus stop, remarked that “the government is misbehaving with us” before being escorted.
Singh remains in custody at Keshav Puram police station, where Delhi Police said it will file a charge sheet against the protestors and the CJP organizers in the Delhi High Court next week, effectively ending the day's demonstrations.
