Rahul Gandhi delivered his remarks at the sixth edition of the "Chhatron Ki Goonj" youth outreach in Chennai on Saturday, slamming Modi as "Mogambo" and accusing him of destroying democracy and engaging in vote chori. He projected a clip from the 1987 film Mr. India with Modi’s face superimposed on Amrish Puri, a visual jab that drew sharp laughter from the packed auditorium.
Gandhi warned that police and BJP goondas had beaten students in Delhi, citing the city’s shutdown as evidence of state violence. He cautioned that the perpetrators of constitutional attacks would be brought to justice, stating, "We will ensure Modi pays for the crimes he has committed against the country."
He further alleged that Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah had launched a full‑scale assault on Tamil culture, language, and history. Gandhi slammed Shah’s claim that Hindi would be imposed on Tamil Nadu under the New Education Policy, arguing that the three‑language formula stifles curiosity.
In his address, Gandhi urged students not to fear, insisting they remain fearless and that all who attack democracy will be held accountable. He called for a national crackdown on democratic erosion.
