Australia’s men snatched the Ashes 4-1, the series finale at the MCG ending 114‑over thriller where Warner extracted a 3‑wicket haul that rattled the English batting.
Warner’s spell—three wickets for 27 runs in the 38th over—was the tipping point that turned the match. The Australian captain, Adam Voges, praised the bowler’s “sharp line and length” amid the packed crowd of 94,000.
Financially, Cricket Australia posted a record A$601.1 million in revenue, largely thanks to the lucrative Ashes and India series deals. Yet the two‑day Tests at Melbourne and Perth carved out an estimated A$20 million hit, a blow that will ripple into the next two years’ budgets.
Meanwhile, the women’s side lifted the ICC T20 World Cup trophy at Lord’s, their seventh title, adding to the nation’s sporting bragging rights.
CEO Mike Baird, in his final AGM address, quipped about the need for five‑day Tests, a jab that underlined the financial stakes of the shortened games.
Looking ahead, Australia gears up for the 2027‑28 fixtures, with the next test series against India looming on the calendar.
