The Justice Department said on Oct 26, 2026 it filed 48 criminal charges against foreign nationals in Pennsylvania, California, Florida, New York and Nevada for illegal voting and voter‑registration fraud.
Among the defendants are Amandeep Kaur, 30, a lawful permanent resident who allegedly registered to vote in December 2022 and cast a ballot in the November 2024 election, and Kamlesh Navnitlal Shah, 67, who is accused of registering on election day and voting that same day. Both cases are pending in federal courts in California.
Pennsylvania cases involve nine defendants across two districts, including a Cuban alien, a Polish national and an Israeli that allegedly voted in 2022 or 2024. California houses the bulk of the charges, with 13 defendants in the Central District and six in the Eastern District, ranging from a Belizean to a Filipino. Florida, New York and Nevada each have a handful of defendants, all facing similar allegations of fraudulent registration and false statements.
For voting by a non‑citizen, federal law imposes a maximum sentence of one year in prison, while fraudulent registration can carry up to five years. The DOJ will seek indictments in the federal courts, and defendants will be arraigned in the coming weeks.
