At 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed a packed crowd of BJP workers in Morigaon, launching a scathing critique of Congress candidate Sibamoni Bora, the former MLA of Batadroba, and accusing her of political silence.
Sarma pointed out that Bora had represented Batadroba for five years yet never raised the contentious Batadroba Than issue in the Assam Legislative Assembly, branding her a ‘silent bride’.
The chief minister also dismissed Congress MP Rakibul Hussain, saying that if Hussain’s visit to Samaguri proved beneficial he would invite the MP to the constituency two or three more times.
The rally precedes the Nagaon Lok Sabha by‑poll, set for October 6, as both BJP and Congress intensify campaigns in the district, while local farmer Arun Kumar said the heated exchange made him wary of the upcoming vote.
