In a ceremony held at the National Green Tribunal premises in Mumbai, Union Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh rolled out two digital tools aimed at tightening India’s climate accountability. The launches, timed to World Ozone Day, marked a shift toward technology‑enabled governance, with the Net Zero Portal set to host corporate emission disclosures and the NAPCC Dashboard to consolidate progress on the eight national missions.
The Net Zero Portal will allow any entity—public or private—to register its net‑zero strategy, list direct and indirect GHG emissions, and submit annual progress reports. Companies that complete verified declarations will receive a Ministry‑issued acknowledgment, signalling compliance and encouraging further decarbonisation.
Meanwhile, the NAPCC Dashboard merges data from ministries overseeing solar, water, agriculture and restoration projects, creating a single interface for monitoring inter‑ministerial performance. The platform will feed into India’s national climate reporting and help pinpoint bottlenecks across the eight missions.
Minister Singh said the twin systems would make the country’s climate commitments transparent and measurable. He added that the portals would bridge gaps between voluntary corporate actions and statutory government targets.
A small textile firm in Gujarat, the first to sign up, plans to upload its 2024 emissions figure by end of month. The Ministry has set 30 September as the deadline for first corporate filings, and a review of dashboard data is slated for mid‑October.
The platforms launch is a prelude to India’s upcoming climate audit, scheduled for November, which will assess the country’s progress toward its 2030 net‑zero pledge.
