Police Sgt. Erik Ellison wrote in the incident report that a metal bench had been struck during the fall, with a cushion on the back of the bench covered in blood and part of the armrest broken. The report notes that the window was open, but the building’s safety limiters were in place to restrict how far the sash could be drawn.
Sargent’s father, Richard Sargent, told Channel 2 Action News that his daughter suffered several serious injuries but that the family was grateful she survived. He added that the incident occurred after the University of Georgia football team beat the Oklahoma Sooners 41‑13, suggesting the post‑game celebrations may have contributed to the festive atmosphere. He said, “She’s a good fighter, and she’s going to be OK.”
