Abhijeet Dipke’s release from Delhi’s jail bucketed into headlines when he posted a Shah Rukh Khan image from Veer‑Zaara, captioned, “How it feels walking out of jail after 24 hours with no wifi and phone.”—the photo went viral in the week’s protest circles.
He was freed after a bail order from a Special Executive Magistrate, following his appearance before the SEM of Mandir Marg police station on Saturday. The detainee’s 24‑hour stay came after police served him two notices on Friday, the same day he stepped out of his Jhandewalan home to join the “Lehra Do Tiranga” march at Connaught Place. The moment he left, he was placed under preventive detention and later arrested Saturday morning for violating a peace bond issued on October 10.
Parallel to Dipke’s freedom, co‑founders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka remain in Tihar Jail. They were moved into five‑day judicial custody on October 14 after being caught trespassing into Jantar Mantar, a site that had been denotified as a protest location. The pair allegedly breached peace bonds they had previously posted over a march aimed at the Chief Election Commissioner concerning alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Both Das and Ranka were released after furnishing surety bonds of ₹50,000 each and pledging to maintain peace and good behaviour for a year. Their release, however, is still pending a court hearing scheduled for next week.
Dipke’s post, the police’s action, and the brothers’ continued custody underscore the tense atmosphere surrounding Delhi’s protest scene. The upcoming court decision on Das and Ranka’s bonds will determine if the trio can align themselves once again with the party’s agenda.
