Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot exchanged leadership banter in a closed‑door Congress session in Jaipur on Thursday, hinting at a reshuffle of authority before the state’s panchayat elections.
The party convened after a disappointing urban local body poll where it secured 94 out of 197 boards, losing ground to the BJP and failing to convert 113 local bodies into Congress seats.
Pilot warned that the fertilizer crisis and alleged BJP misuse of state machinery could cost voters, pledging to field clean candidates and target villages.
A farmer in Ajmer’s Pali district, who relies on government fertilizer distribution, said the delay has pushed his crops into risk, underscoring the stakes.
The leadership will now finalize candidate lists for 113 local bodies before the elections slated for October, with a committee chaired by former Speaker CP Joshi reviewing the loss.
