Bollywood loves its grand gestures, but Anil Kapoor just admitted to something far more radical: he skipped his own honeymoon. On the latest episode of India Ke Top 1%, the actor recounted how his wife Sunita went on their post-wedding trip solo. "Sunita akele gayi thi honeymoon par, main saath mein nahi gaya tha," he told the host. It’s a stark contrast to the opulent vacations usually associated with A-list couples, yet it fits the no-nonsense vibe of a relationship that has outlasted most of the industry's trends.
The anecdote wasn't random. It sparked after a contestant brought up Kangana Ranaut’s Queen, a film about a woman traveling to Manali alone. Anil leaned into the comparison, calling Sunita his "Queen" and emphasizing that her independence predates the modern narrative of female empowerment in cinema. It’s a quiet nod to a partner who didn’t need a co-pilot for her first major journey, even if the husband was busy building a career that would make him a household name.
But the honeymoon story is just the tip of the iceberg. Anil also revealed a pre-marital condition Sunita set: she would not enter the kitchen. He took that on as a professional challenge. "I took that responsibility, and to date, Sunita has not entered the kitchen," he said. It’s a domestic arrangement that sounds absurd to outsiders but clearly works for a couple who have been together for 53 years. No chef, no cleanup, no drama. Just a deal struck before the rings were exchanged.
Their wedding itself was equally anti-climactic by industry standards. In a recent Instagram post marking their 42nd anniversary, Anil noted the ceremony lasted only 30 minutes. No fanfare, no multi-day celebrations. Just family, a few friends, and a quick exit. "I never imagined that thirty minutes would turn into fifty-three years," he wrote. It’s a humility that’s rare in Bollywood, where weddings are often treated as box-office events in their own right.
Anil is currently juggling a massive slate of projects, including the spy thriller Alpha with Alia Bhatt and Suhana Khan’s debut in Shah Rukh Khan’s King. He’s also slated to appear in Jr NTR’s Dragon. While he’s busy conquering big screens, it’s the small, unglamorous details of his marriage that keep the headlines interesting. The man who played the tough guy in Ram Lakhan is clearly a master of domestic logistics.
