HMSI said it is forecasting a surge in sales during the upcoming festive season, a trend that has followed a steady expansion in the Indian motorcycle market. Dealers across the country are already placing larger orders, anticipating a robust demand that historically lifts sales by a sizable margin.
The company attributes the cost pressure to disruptions originating in West Asia, where geopolitical tensions have tightened supply chains and pushed raw‑material prices upward. Otani highlighted that these global shocks directly impact the cost of key components such as aluminum frames and electronic control units.
In response, HMSI is boosting inventory levels across its dealer network, ensuring sufficient stock to meet the holiday boom. The strategy involves pre‑ordering parts in bulk and allocating additional production capacity to avoid shortages.
Rahul Kumar, a senior dealer in Jaipur, told reporters that he has already increased his procurement orders by 20% to keep pace with expected demand. He added that the tighter margins could force him to adjust pricing or cut back on promotional spending.
The company plans to monitor cost trends closely and adjust pricing structures if necessary. Meanwhile, industry analysts expect the situation to prompt a broader review of supply‑chain resilience among India’s motorcycle manufacturers.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Heavy Industries said it will assess the impact of these cost pressures on the sector and explore measures to support manufacturers and dealers during the peak season.
With the festive period looming, HMSI’s next step is to finalize its inventory strategy by the end of this month and to communicate any pricing adjustments to its dealer network ahead of the holiday rush.
