Chennai immigration officials halted Archana Veeramani, 38, from a 2:20 p.m. flight to Singapore on Friday, after a special alert from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing her father’s POCSO cases.
R Veeramani, 84, chairman of Gem Granites, is lodged in Puzhal Central Prison and faces at least seven POCSO charges for alleged abuse of juvenile girls, including a 2004 minor suicide that remains under investigation.
SIT investigators say Archana’s travel plans were interrupted because she may possess evidence of a trail of cash and gold transactions meant to shield her father from prosecution. Police are now searching for her brother, Prakash, and have issued a Blue Corner Notice for an associate believed to have fled to the United Kingdom.
The SIT will continue probing the financial cover‑ups while authorities widen their search for other implicated associates, with a potential arrest pending further evidence.
