The numbers were stark. Vinati Organics Ltd’s net profit for the quarter ended September 2024 plunged 28.1% to ₹78.4 crore, a sharp reversal from the ₹109 crore posted in the same period last year. Revenue from operations also took a hit, declining 2.3% to ₹680 crore from ₹696 crore. The EBITDA margin compressed by 610 basis points, landing at 18.5% compared to 24.6% a year ago, signaling tighter operating economics for the specialty chemical major.
Market reaction was immediate and negative. Shares of Vinati Organics closed at ₹993.25 on the BSE, shedding ₹45.65 or 4.39% in a single session. Traders likely focused on the widening gap between revenue stability and the steep drop in bottom-line earnings. The EBITDA decline to ₹125.5 crore from ₹171 crore highlighted the pressure on operational efficiency during the quarter.
Yet, the company is looking ahead with significant investment plans. Vinati Organics announced an aggregated capital expenditure of ₹500 crore for itself and its wholly owned subsidiary, Veeral Organics Private Limited. This funding, coming entirely from internal accruals, targets greenfield projects in specialty chemicals for resins, fragrances, personal care, and water treatment. The projects are slated for commissioning within the next two years, marking a strategic push into adjacent product segments driven by market demand.
The board’s confidence appears intact despite the quarterly miss. The company has retained its FY27 volume growth guidance, even as the turnaround of its US subsidiary, Viral Organics, faces delays. With plans to explore new product lines and expand capacity, management aims to offset current margin pressures. Investors will watch closely how these new investments translate into revenue growth over the next two years, especially given the current stock price volatility.
