Akhil Gogoi ended his 14‑day sit‑in at the Assam Legislative Assembly on Thursday after Chief Minister Himanta Sarma promised to address flood‑relief demands.
The protest, launched on Oct. 2, called for ₹15,000 interim aid for every eligible flood‑affected family in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat.
Gogoi said 4,000 families had received the cash, 3,064 were still pending, and he demanded an extra ₹10 lakh per family and a CBI probe, which the state offered a technical committee instead.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Keshab Mahanta met Gogoi and said the CM would now act on the assurances; the state has surveyed 57,000 families, estimating ₹1.1 crore in compensation, and will file a proposal to the Centre.
A displaced mother in Sivasagar still waits for the promised ₹15,000, fearing the delay will ruin her harvest, while the CM will next unveil a phased disbursement plan and decide on a CBI inquiry.
