The violent incident unfolded on Sunday morning as Singh was driving to Pennsylvania when he stopped at a rest area in southern Wyoming.
Inside the restroom, a stranger, later identified as Bzdak, began beating him and then stabbed him multiple times, leaving wounds to the neck, chest, and ribs.
A Hispanic family at the stop rushed to Singh’s aid, administering first aid and calling emergency services, which arrived minutes after he collapsed on the pavement.
Bzdak, 45, was arrested by the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office and charged with attempted first‑degree murder; no motive was disclosed in the indictment.
Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi condemned the attack on X, linking it to broader hate against Sikh and South Asian Americans following a controversial DHS post that caricatured a driver named Singh.
Singh remains hospitalized in critical condition; prosecutors will file a formal complaint by Monday, and the case is expected to proceed to arraignment on September 21.
