Ash Stanbridge, who took over the historic Kolmar House General Store in Harrow, Victoria, discovered a 28‑year‑old Magnum Ego ice cream frozen in a freezer on Oct. 24.
The 145‑year‑old shop, a village staple since the 1870s, had been cleared of old stock when Stanbridge defrosted an ancient freezer. Inside, the enamel‑wrapped bar sat beneath layers of ice, untouched for decades.
Stanbridge, 35, told ABC News that the familiar Magnum logo on the wrapper triggered a flood of memories. "I was a kid in the late 1990s, and we’d always stop at service stations for a Ego," he said. He described the bar as a "premium treat" that made family outings special.
Magnum Ice Cream Company responded to the online frenzy with a statement via ABC News. "Australians have been sharing stories, memories and tributes to Magnum Ego," the company said, adding, "For now, all we can say is watch this space." The brand clarified that the discovery does not confirm a return to shelves.
The find has also unearthed other relics, including 1980s chips and a sealed milk container, which Stanbridge is preserving as part of the store’s heritage. As social media users chant for a comeback, Magnum’s spokesperson hinted at a review of the product’s viability, leaving fans in suspense.
