Kunal Kemmu just dropped the word that a sequel to Madgaon Express is in the works. The director, who’s been juggling acting and directing, said he’s already penned a new script, yet the release window remains a secret.
Madgaon Express, shot in the coastal town of Goa, roped together Divyenndu, Avinash Tiwary and Pratik Gandhi in a tale of friendship turned treasure hunt. The film’s quirky humor and off‑beat pacing earned it a cult following, and its 2024 run netted over ₹50 crore.
When asked why he’s keeping the timeline tight, Kunal shrugged, "I don’t want to rush a story that needs time to breathe." He added that the sequel’s premise is "a story to tell" that will only be released when it feels complete.
Kunal recalls that stepping behind the camera was a revelation. "I realized I could be more authentic as a director than as an actor," he told Variety India. He noted that the director’s role gives him freedom to manipulate emotions on set, a stark contrast to the actor’s protected world.
Fans are already speculating whether Divyenndu, Avinash and Pratik will reprise their roles. Kunal said he’ll answer that question "on another day," leaving the audience in suspense. The gap between the films—just a year—makes the mystery even more tantalizing.
In the meantime, Kunal’s latest film Vibe is still playing in theatres, showcasing his knack for blending drama with humor. Whether Madgaon Express 2 will echo that style remains to be seen, but the silence is its own character, promising intrigue over certainty.
