Hasi Rani Rath, daughter of former TMC aide Chandranath Rath, captured the Nandigram seat with a staggering 1.64 lakh‑vote margin, eclipsing every prior win in the constituency.
In a parallel contest, Shankaravh Sarkar took Rejinagar by more than 75,000 votes, a result that the BJP leadership hails as evidence of minority support.
The seat was vacated by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who had secured both Nandigram and Bhabanipur in the 2021 assembly elections, a move that triggered the bypolls.
The 122,553‑vote spread is the largest since 1967, surpassing Adhikari’s own 2016 margin of 81,230 votes, signaling the BJP’s growing strength in a state long dominated by the TMC.
Adhikari praised the result, citing minority voters and thanking beneficiaries of the Annapurna Yojana, while opponents noted the fractured opposition with TMC splinter groups contesting.
State officials will now tabulate the final count and the BJP may use the outcome to consolidate its position ahead of the next assembly elections.
