Amritsar Police Commissioner Harmanveer Singh Gill announced that two men had been taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting of LGBTQ activist Mad Sandhu.
The gunman, riding a bike with a second accomplice, struck Sandhu in the heart on a busy street in Amritsar last week, leaving him blood‑soaked on the pavement.
Gill said investigators suspect the attack was orchestrated by hired goons, and they are now probing who hired them and who masterminded the hit.
The case follows a similar murder in Bathinda last year, when a Sikh vigilante claimed responsibility for killing social media influencer Kamal Kaur Bhabhi over alleged vulgar content.
Gill added that no extremist or radical motive has emerged and that the police are withholding suspect identities to preserve the probe. The investigation will continue over the next 24 hours before the police file formal charges.
