Mateusz Chmura collapsed during his routine in the finals of the PCA British Finals in Telford, and died at age 33.
The 33‑year‑old bodybuilder was just a day shy of his 34th birthday and had made a splash by placing second in his first show two weeks earlier.
Medical staff rushed to the stage as Chmura went down mid‑pose; paramedics on‑scene performed emergency CPR before he was air‑lifted to a nearby hospital.
The competition was paused as organizers set up a medical briefing and convened a meeting with the other athletes. After a short break, the finals resumed, but the mood was heavy.
PCA’s Instagram post read: “Mateusz Chmura, 33, from Wakefield, has passed away. Our deepest condolences go to his wife, family, friends and everyone who knew and loved him.” NewPARA His wife, recently married to Patrycja, cautioned the public against unauthorised fundraising pages claiming to collect money in their name.
The incident has left the bodybuilding fraternity stunned, and organizers are reviewing safety protocols for future meets. The next PCA event is scheduled for late November, where athletes will look to honor Chmura’s memory.
