Mukuhlani Becomes First Zimbabwean Deputy Chair of ICC Until 2027

Zimbabwe’s Tavengwa Mukuhlani is named ICC Deputy Chair for the period ending November 2027, marking the first time a Zimbabwean holds the post. His appointment comes as Zimbabwe prepares to co‑host the 2027 Cricket World Cup, boosting African cricket’s standing on the global stage.

On Thursday, the ICC Board approved Tavengwa Mukuhlani as its new deputy chairperson, replacing Singapore’s Imran Khwaja.

Mukuhlani, already the chair of Zimbabwe Cricket, sits on the ICC Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee, the Nominations Committee, and leads the HR and Remuneration Committee.

"Tavengwa brings invaluable experience and a deep commitment to developing cricket worldwide," said ICC Chairman Jay Shah.

Mukuhlani, in turn, said he looks forward to working closely with Shah to expand opportunities for members and reach new markets, especially as cricket returns to the Olympic Games.

With Zimbabwe set to co‑host the 2027 World Cup alongside South Africa and Namibia, Mukuhlani’s appointment signals a new era for African cricket governance and a push to grow the game across the continent.
