The unveiling of the statue, the first life‑size Gandhi monument in the upper US Midwest, took place on Thursday, 29 October 2026, at Peace Park in downtown Bismarck.
Consul General Prakash Gupta, accompanied by Governor Kelly Armstrong and First Lady Kjersti Armstrong, delivered remarks that highlighted the statue as a symbol of peace amid global divisions.
The statue, erected with technical support from the Indian‑American community and the North Dakota Trade Office, carries a plaque that reads, "From the people of India to the people of North Dakota," and a Gandhi quote about friendship.
This installation follows earlier Gandhi monuments in Seattle, Lincoln, and Missoula, and the consulate says it will boost people‑to‑people ties, with a planned cultural exchange program in 2027.
