Rahul Gandhi posted a series of messages on X this week, alleging that police had halted the protest at Jantar Mantar, left women journalists without a filing of the complaint, and snatched their cameras. He quoted a female journalist who said her footage was seized and that officers dragged her around without any official record.
The accusations echo earlier claims by two female journalists, Shaheen and Nafisa, who reported being beaten inside the Saket police station after attempting to cover a VVIP event. Police officials dismissed the allegations as "factually incorrect and misleading," stating that the journalists had blocked a designated route by parking a scooter.
In his post, Gandhi demanded that the entire CCTV footage from the Saket station be made public and called for immediate disciplinary measures against the officers. He also urged Home Minister Amit Shah to address the issue, questioning why the state’s own security forces could be "afraid of women."
The calls may prompt a parliamentary committee to summon Delhi Police for an explanation. Meanwhile, Shaheen, a mother of two, has expressed fear for her children’s safety, while the journalists continue to seek justice and transparency.
