Exide Industries Limited on Oct. 27, 2026, poured ₹149.99 crore into its wholly owned subsidiary Exide Energy Solutions Limited via a rights issue, buying 4.29 crore new equity shares at ₹35 apiece. The move brings the total stake in EESL to ₹5,352.23 crore, while the parent’s shareholding stays at 100%. The transaction was filed with the BSE and cleared the regulatory muster without any approval requirement.
Exide’s own stock slipped 0.24% to ₹336.10 at market close, a marginal 80 paise drop, reflecting investor caution amid the capital infusion and the subsidiary’s recent loss after tax of ₹248.16 crore for FY26.
EESL, incorporated March 24, 2022, posted a ₹157.56 crore turnover in FY26, up from ₹116.89 crore in FY25 but still trailing the ₹239.14 crore in FY24. Net worth stood at ₹3,991.06 crore against a paid‑up equity of ₹1,661.36 crore, yet the subsidiary logged a hefty loss of ₹248.16 crore after tax.
The infusion is earmarked for a new greenfield plant in Bengaluru that will churn out lithium‑ion battery cells, modules and packs for EVs and stationary storage. Analysts point to the sector’s projected CAGR of 23% over the next five years, noting that EESL’s expansion could position it as a key supplier in the domestic EV battery chain.
No immediate guidance was released, but Exide Industries has indicated that the funding is part of a broader push to bolster its battery arm ahead of the FY27 earnings call on December 15. Investors will also watch for any dividend or share‑repurchase signals in the coming months.
