Delhi police have granted the Indian National Congress a no‑objection certificate for a protest at Ramlila Maidan from Oct 25 to Nov 3, setting the stage for a 1 November rally.
The rally will take aim at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, who faces criticism over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of voter rolls.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Rohit Rajbir Singh said the Congress would use the NOC to coordinate with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and prepare the site, while any other organiser could follow the same process.
Mallikarjun Kharge told reporters the party would ‘explain the vote chori’ and that the protest would highlight the need for ballot papers instead of electronic voting machines.
Police will manage traffic and law‑and‑order, coordinating with traffic police and other agencies to keep the rally orderly.
The protest, scheduled for the first day of November, is expected to draw thousands of Congress supporters and could pressure the Election Commission to revisit its SIR procedures.
Congress expects to mobilise its base on 1 November, while the Election Commission faces renewed scrutiny.
