At about 5 p.m. on Friday, gunfire erupted inside a home on the 700 block of Perry Street in Erie, sending a wave of panic through the neighborhood.
Two women lay dead outside the front door, while other victims were found inside the house—one a pregnant woman, the other two children, their faces frozen in terror.
Chief Rick Lorah described the scene as "one of the most difficult and heartbreaking" the department had seen, and he said officers had to act swiftly to secure the perimeter.
The suspect, who later died from a self‑inflicted gunshot wound, entered the house after shooting the two women, then barricaded himself inside, sparking a standoff with SWAT teams that lasted several hours.
Investigators are still tracing the suspect’s motives and any relationship to the victims; a full report will be issued once evidence is confirmed.
City officials said the situation has been contained and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
