Nikhil Kamath, who cut through the Indian brokerage market with Zerodha, told the NDTV World Summit in 2026 that he wants to create a new social‑media platform that will rival China’s domestic giants.
Kamath’s vision stems from the failure of India’s own Koo, which peaked at 21 lakh daily users before shutting down in July 2024. He believes India needs a platform that can grow beyond domestic borders.
“India will need its own version of everything American does—social media, e‑commerce, quick commerce,” Kamath said, citing China’s model. He highlighted that Indians are “getting more globalised, yet fragmented,” and wants a unified space.
Zerodha, founded in 2010, now serves 1.8 crore clients and processes billions of orders annually. Kamath’s disruption history gives him credibility to tackle the social‑media market.
Investors are watching closely; several Indian tech firms have expressed interest in partnering for the platform’s launch next year.
