Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, told Al Jazeera that Tehran has outlined seven conditions for restarting talks with Washington, including an end to the war on all fronts, release of frozen assets and lifting the naval blockade.
The conditions were forwarded to Washington via Qatar, which recently passed Tehran’s memorandum of understanding to the US. Pakistan has also been involved in attempts to revive stalled negotiations after the earlier MOU expired.
Rezaei warned that the US should accept the terms or face a decisive war. He added that Iran is now focused on U.S. naval forces in the Gulf, Gulf of Oman and Arabian Sea, having recently test‑fired a multi‑warhead anti‑ship missile near an American vessel.
Iran also said it is not yet decided to withdraw from the Nuclear Non‑Proliferation Treaty, but further sanctions or a UN Security Council referral could push Tehran to exit. Iran reportedly reached a near‑deal with Oman over the Strait of Hormuz before shelving the agreement.
Trump told Axios that he was facing a “big decision” over whether to resume major military action against Iran. He said, “Do I want to go in and annihilate them or do I not?” The US is weighing its next move as diplomatic and military options weigh on the table.
