Baltimore police are holding a woman who allegedly stripped naked and engaged in indecent acts during American Airlines Flight 1779 to Miami. The disruption occurred shortly after 9:00 pm local time on September 11, as the aircraft climbed out of Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. The flight had already delayed nearly two hours before wheels-up.
Crew members realized the situation when they spotted the passenger in seat 9D disrobing in front of others. The cockpit logged an urgent message via the Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System: "FA1 REPORTS THAT PAX IN SEAT 9DEF HAS TAKEN OFF ALL HER CLOTHES... IN AN INDECENT MANNER." The system flagged the incident for immediate law enforcement handover.
The plane landed in Miami around 11:23 pm as scheduled. Officers waited at the jet bridge and took the woman into custody immediately upon deplaning. No other passengers were injured, and the flight did not require an emergency diversion.
This incident follows a string of disruptive events on US carriers. A week earlier, a man on a Reno-to-New Jersey American Airlines flight was duct-taped to his seat after attacking a neighbor. In June, a Turkish Airlines jet aborted takeoff from Denver after a sewage system failure flooded the cabin. Authorities in Florida have not released the suspect's name or confirmed whether prosecutors will file charges.
