The 28‑year‑old Mohan of Savita Nagar was brought to the Firozabad government trauma centre at 8 p.m. with severe abdominal pain and vomiting, and he died at 10 p.m.
Mohandas’s brother Yogesh alleged the doctors did not initiate treatment for almost an hour and denied oxygen was supplied. The family claims medical negligence, while the medical staff counters that the patient’s condition deteriorated rapidly.
The disagreement escalated when family members physically assaulted a doctor, prompting other staff to intervene. The confrontation turned violent, and a group of doctors staged a dharna outside the centre, halting emergency services for approximately three hours. Police from several stations were deployed and senior city officials met with the protesting doctors.
After assurances that an inquiry would be conducted and action taken against any responsible parties, the doctors called off the protest. The All India Medical Students’ Association condemned the violence and demanded accountability.
The incident has sparked debate over patient safety protocols in Uttar Pradesh hospitals and highlighted the need for clearer guidelines on handling disputes between patients’ families and medical staff.
