Delhi Police recovered the burnt body of a 19‑year‑old student who set herself on fire inside Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Delhi’s Krishna Nagar around 1:40 pm, police said.
The body lay behind the school’s guard room, and investigators noted that the student had poured petrol before igniting it. Three handwritten notes were found in her bag, suggesting a possible romantic motive.
Sister Aisha Rani said she saw her sister laughing and walking into the school with a smile before the phone call at 1:40 pm.
The Delhi Crime Team was deployed to collect evidence, including suspicious items from her bag, though their nature remains undisclosed. Officials will conduct a forensic inquiry at the school premises before announcing further findings.
Self‑immolation among Indian school students remains a rare but tragic phenomenon; the last similar case was reported in 2018 at a Delhi high school.
Police will hold a forensic autopsy and forward the case to the CID for a deeper investigation.
