On Oct. 21, a Kuwait‑flagged oil tanker, M/T AL DASMA, was struck by an unidentified projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, according to the ship’s logs.
Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal confirmed the incident on X, noting that the Indian crew were unharmed and that Indian authorities are monitoring the situation.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil transport, has seen a rise in missile and projectile attacks in recent months, with 12 incidents reported in 2024 alone, according to the International Maritime Bureau.
India will coordinate with Kuwait’s maritime authorities and the tanker’s management company to investigate the attack and ensure the safety of international shipping lanes.
