The former LDS Church at 20125 Bollinger Road, a 20,761‑square‑foot, 2.37‑acre parcel with 139 parking spots, 10 classrooms, an auditorium, a community hall, a commercial kitchen and a basketball court that opens into the main sanctuary, was sold to WVMA for $16.5 million on Oct. 22, 2026, after the association outbid 15 other suitors and closed a 60‑day deal that began on July 9.
For two decades, WVMA has roamed the West Valley in rented venues—Los Gatos Islamic Center, various schools, and community halls—while its members prayed, taught, and celebrated in borrowed rooms. The new site marks the first permanent mosque in Cupertino or Saratoga in more than twenty years, a milestone that the association credits to its BQ zoning that authorizes religious use without further approval.
The $16.5 million price tag is only the tip of the iceberg. WVMA's campaign, which raised $10 million from congregants and pledged $7 million of its own capital, also earmarked roughly $500,000 for immediate repairs, bringing total outlay to about $17 million. Donations flowed in through credit‑card portals, checks, donor‑advised funds, cryptocurrency, and even a qard‑hasan interest‑free loan arrangement, underscoring the community's commitment to avoid debt.
The association plans to commence renovations immediately, with the first phase targeting the kitchen, HVAC, and accessibility upgrades, slated to finish by December 2026. After a ribbon‑cutting ceremony in early January 2027, the mosque will open for daily prayers, Friday congregations, Ramadan Taraweehs, and community events, giving 20,000‑plus Muslims in the region a permanent place of worship.
