A U.S. official told reporters on Friday that President Donald Trump never asked the White House to curb the use of SpaceX's Starshield communications system in Ukraine.
The statement came after Elon Musk said on social media that any limits on Starshield speed or usage were decided by the U.S. military and ultimately the president.
Ukraine, which relies on Starshield for battlefield communications, mid‑range strikes on Russian‑occupied territory, and interceptor drones, reported a temporary restriction on the service that same Wednesday.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said Friday that the service was in the process of being restored and that the White House had asked SpaceX to do so.
The incident comes amid growing tension between Washington and Kyiv, after Trump called for Zelensky to be replaced following a U.S. deal that would allow more Russian diesel into global markets.
Ukraine is now monitoring the restoration of Starshield, while diplomatic channels await any further clarification from the White House.
